I read an article the other day about China discouraging/banning movies that have to do with time travel saying that they “lack positive thoughts and meaning”. Of course, this got me thinking.
We all have a history. Every minute that passes, moves into a part of history. We are always creating it. There’s no stopping it; time never stops. It is good to know your past. It is good to know about the past history overall. That is how we learn. We learn from past mistakes. The problem comes when we start to LIVE in the past. When we dream of things of old. Wishing that “things were like they used to be”, or we never let go of something that happened in our past. When we start to live in the past, we are not in the present to enjoy the things of now. We keep ourselves from dreaming of our future and enjoying it. We stop ourselves from ever moving forward. The majority of the time, though, the past that we hang onto isn’t one of good. It’s more of the hurt, pain and trauma that has happened to us that we cling to. And we tend to use that to keep us from growing and stretching ourselves. We use it as an excuse as to why we can’t do something. Then we end up being consumed by fear (that’s a WHOLE nother subject for a different day.) The bible says in Isaiah 43:18, Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. It goes on to say (verse 19), See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. God is wanting to do new things in our lives. We often miss those things because we are stuck in the past. He makes a way where there is no way.
History has it’s value. As long as we use it for the right reason. Enjoy the now that God has blessed you with. Pray that He will help you focus on the now that He has for you. Tomorrow is a new day. Make sure you live in it! =) Be Blessed!
